Inviting Professors from the University of Helsinki, Finland, FEBI IAIN Ternate to Hold an International Guest Lecture

TERNATE – Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) IAIN Ternate, North Maluku, is again holding an international guest lecture. This guest lecture presented a professor from the University of Helsinki, Finland, Prof. Timo Kaartinen, Ph.D.
The international guest lecture entitled Diverse Livelihood And Economic Strategies Of People In Indonesia (Various Strategies for Finding Life and the Economy of the Indonesian People), took place in the FEBI auditorium, Thursday (18/7/2024).
Dean of FEBI IAIN Ternate Dr Abu Sanmas, S.H., M.Pd in ​​his speech said that the theme promoted by the faculty in this international guest lecture was very relevant to the current socio-economic conditions of society. He assessed that problems related to the economy always receive attention and are hot topics discussed by universities.
"Such as the dynamics of global economic growth or slowdown which affect the national economy which has various impacts on people's lives, and this is a concern on every campus to continue to be discussed," he said
For this reason, he continued, the theme set for the international guest lecture received a positive response from the teaching staff and students of FEBI IAIN Ternate. He explained that the phenomenon of digital transformation, which triggers various innovations through digitization and digitization, is a challenge that society continues to face.
So, he continued, the role of the academic community, especially students at the economics faculty, is needed to continue providing education to the public regarding utilizing digitalization to improve the community's economy.
"So, there must be solution and adaptive steps taken by students to help society respond to the digital transformation phenomenon so that society always has the hope of running a business for survival," he explained.
"That is what must get our attention as an academic community," he added.
Meanwhile, Prof. Timo Kaartinen in his presentation explained that lecturers and students who have an understanding in the field of economics must respond to the economic problems faced by society, namely by continuing to carry out research and providing education to the public.
"It is very important for lecturers and students to realize that we are experts in a field, so we must be able to evaluate every problem faced by society," he said
Apart from that, according to him, the economic problems faced by people in each region are almost exactly the same; both in the fisheries, agriculture, livestock and plantation business sectors.
For this reason, he believes that to encourage people to continue running their businesses, they must get attention from the government by providing assistance. Because every business run by the community, he continued, if it gets a response from the government, the community is practically motivated to run the business or businesses they are involved in.
"The community needs to be guided so that their economy runs as expected, especially as the academic community continues to provide education, so that the community has the ability to face and avoid every economic problem," he said.
He added, to start a business, the first thing you have to look at is the business opportunity, because every business that is run without considering opportunities practically often encounters obstacles.
