
Morotai Island Regional Government Prepares Scholarships for New IAIN Ternate Students from Morotai, Here's the Amount Per Semester and Criteria
TERNATE – The Regional Government of Morotai Island Regency, North Maluku, in 2024 will again prepare study assistance (scholarships) for children from Morotai Island who are continuing their studies at the Ternate State Islamic Institute (IAIN).
This was conveyed by the Head of the Human Resources (HR) Sub Division for People's Welfare (Kesra) of the Morotai Island Regional Government, Samsul Bada, S.Sos when monitoring and coordinating regarding the provision of educational assistance for students from Morotai Island at IAIN Ternate, Friday (26 /7/2024).
He said monitoring and coordination at IAIN Ternate was to ensure the number of students from Morotai Island who continued their studies at IAIN Ternate based on collaboration between IAIN Ternate and the Morotai Island Regional Government which took place from 2021 to 2024.
"The Morotai Island Regional Government has started disbursing study assistance for students from Morotai at IAIN Ternate since 2021, so we are monitoring this to find out the progress of their studies at IAIN Ternate," he said.
"And we want to find out and confirm the latest data for new students from Morotai Island at IAIN Ternate in 2024," he added.
Study assistance for students, he continued, is a breakthrough for the Morotai Island Regional Government to improve human resources on Morotai Island. So, he said, it is not only intended for students from Morotai who are continuing their studies at IAIN Ternate, but also at several universities in the city of Ternate, as well as outside North Maluku.
"In Ternate there are five universities, namely IAIN Ternate, UMMU Malut, Khairun University Ternate, STIKIP Kie Raha Ternate and Poltekkes Ternate, while outside North Maluku there are two campuses, namely the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic (PPL) and the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta , as well as Pacific University Morotai and Halmahera University Tobelo," he explained
He added that students from Morotai Island who continue their studies at IAIN Ternate, based on the agreement stated in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between IAIN Ternate and the Morotai Island Regional Government, students receive assistance until they graduate from college.
In providing study assistance, it varies according to the UKT received by each student. Apart from that, there are agreed restrictions, which only apply to semesters one to nine. So, students who do not complete their studies on time will certainly no longer receive study assistance from the Morotai Island Regional Government.
"We do this so that students will have the enthusiasm to quickly complete their studies, and based on the agreement we made, students who receive study assistance per semester will have a minimum Semester Achievement Index (IPS) of 2.75 per semester," he explained.
"If they have received a scholarship from another institution, which covers study costs and living costs, such as the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) scholarship and the like, then they will no longer receive study assistance from the Morotai Island Regional Government," he added.
According to him, based on study assistance data covered by IAIN Ternate, it shows a positive trend over the last three years; both from the aspect of academic achievement and non-academic achievement.
"From the data we obtained, especially for children who continued their studies at IAIN Ternate, most of them completed their studies on time, even those who completed their studies in under four years," he said.
Meanwhile, the deputy chancellor for student affairs and cooperation at IAIN Ternate, Dr. provide convenience for the children of Morotai Island to complete their studies.
He explained that study assistance from the Morotai Island Regional Government to students is through a single tuition fee (UKT), where every semester the campus submits student data to the Morotai Island Regional Government, so that UKT payments are not made by students, but are made directly by the Morotai Regional Government to IAIN Ternate. .
However, he continued, students who do not meet the requirements as stated in the memorandum of understanding will no longer recommend their data to the Morotai Island Regional Government.
"Yes, because according to the agreement, every semester the Morotai Island Regional Government makes student UKT payments, but this only applies to the first to ninth semesters, if students are in the 10th semester, we no longer recommend it to the Morotai Island Regional Government, this refers to the agreement between IAIN Ternate and the Morotai Island Regional Government, because the aim of the study assistance provided by the Morotai Regional Government is to encourage students to finish on time," he said.
Furthermore, Mubin explained, the Morotai Island Regional Government's policy was in line with the vision put forward by the Chancellor of IAIN Ternate in developing human resources in North Maluku. For this reason, he hopes that the collaboration between IAIN Ternate and the Regional Government of Morotai Island will continue, so that in the future children from Morotai Island will continue to pay attention to continuing their studies at IAIN Ternate.
"Even though the collaboration is valid from 2021 to 2024, we hope that in the coming year it can be renewed again, because we consider that the Morotai Island Regional Government's policy is very responsive to the vision of the Chancellor of IAIN Ternate in improving human resources in North Maluku province, especially for developing human resources on Morotai Island." he said
